Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to personal data when you visit jvmscope.com. It is written to satisfy Articles 12–14 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the GDPR).
The short version: this site has no accounts, no newsletter, no comment system, no advertising and no third-party trackers. It sets no cookies. The only personal data processed is what the hosting infrastructure needs in order to serve a page, plus anything you choose to put in an email.
1. Controller
The controller for the processing described below is Marcus Venn, who publishes this site as JVM Scope.
Contact for any privacy matter, including the rights in section 5: contact@jvmscope.com. Email is the only channel, and requests sent to it are answered directly rather than through a form or a third-party portal.
No data protection officer has been appointed: the processing described below does not meet the criteria in Article 37(1).
2. What is processed, and why
Server and delivery logs
The site is a static site served by Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare’s infrastructure processes connection data in order to deliver the response and to protect the service from abuse:

Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) — the legitimate interest in delivering a working, secure website. Without this data the request cannot be answered at all.
Retention: these logs are held by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule, typically days rather than months. This site keeps no copy of them, and no attempt is made to link a request to an identified person.
Audience measurement
If audience measurement is enabled, it is Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not fingerprint visitors. It reports aggregate page views, referrers and country-level location. No profile is built, no identifier is stored on your device, and no data is shared with an advertising network.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) — the legitimate interest in knowing which articles are read, in a form that cannot single you out. Because nothing is stored on or read from your device, this measurement does not require consent under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.
If you write to contact@jvmscope.com, your address and the content of your message are processed in order to reply.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f), and Article 6(1)(b) where your message concerns a request you have made. Retention: correspondence is kept while the matter is open and deleted when it no longer serves a purpose, at the latest after two years.
Fonts and other assets
Typefaces, stylesheets, scripts and images are served from this site’s own domain. No request is made to a third-party font, CDN or analytics host while you read, so no additional party learns your IP address through this site.
3. What is never done here
- No cookies are set. See the cookie policy for the one item of local storage the site uses.
- No advertising, remarketing, conversion tracking or audience selling.
- No automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Article 22.
- No sale or disclosure of personal data, except where a legal obligation requires it.
4. Recipients and international transfers
Cloudflare, Inc. acts as a processor for hosting, content delivery and, where enabled, audience measurement. Processing may take place on servers outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and by Cloudflare’s participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, together with the technical and organisational measures set out in its data processing addendum.
The email address is served by a commercial email provider acting as a processor for message delivery and storage.
No other recipient receives data from this site.
5. Your rights
Under Articles 15 to 22 you may request access to your data, rectification of it, erasure, restriction of processing, and portability where it applies. You may object at any time to processing based on legitimate interest, on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Requests go to contact@jvmscope.com and are answered within one month. Where a request concerns log data, note that this site cannot identify you from an IP address alone; you may be asked for information that makes the request answerable, and if identification remains impossible the request may be refused under Article 11(2).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in the EU or EEA member state of your residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.
6. Children
This site is written for professional software developers. It is not directed at children, and no data is knowingly processed about them.
7. Changes
Material changes to this policy are reflected in the revision date at the top of the page. Because there is no mailing list, there is nowhere to send a notice — the dated page is the record.
